Instructions On How To Take Care Of It:
To grow a Black Hills Spruce Seedling, plant it in a sunny spot (6+ hours) with well-drained, slightly acidic soil during spring or fall. Keep the soil consistently moist for the first two years, watering weekly, but avoid waterlogging. Apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect the shallow roots.
Key Care Guidelines:
- Location: Full sun is preferred for best growth, though it can tolerate partial shade.
- Spacing: If planting in the ground, allow 10-20 feet of space, as they can grow up to 20 feet wide.
- Watering: During the first two years, water deeply but infrequently to encourage root establishment.
- Fertilizer: Usually not needed, but a balanced fertilizer can be applied in early spring if growth is poor.
For best results, start the seedling in a pot large enough for it to remain in for the first couple years. This will also allow you to easily move the tree to keep away from critters or bad weather conditions that may impact the tree.
